About Us
ARREST-AMR is a UK-wide transdisciplinary network dedicated to advancing diagnostics to tackle antimicrobial resistance (AMR) through a One Health approach.

Antimicrobial resistance doesn’t exist in isolation. Resistant microorganisms can spread between people, animals, plants and the environment. This is why effective diagnostics need to look at the bigger picture, recognising how these systems are connected. This is at the heart of the One Health approach.
Our Focus: One Health Diagnostics
Diagnostics are fundamental to tackling AMR. They can help identify infections and resistance quickly, guide appropriate antimicrobial treatment, detect emerging resistance, and support surveillance and interventions to prevent its spread.
However, diagnostic needs differ considerably across human, animal, plant and environmental health. ARREST-AMR brings these communities together to identify shared challenges, exchange technologies and expertise, and develop diagnostic solutions that work in the settings where they are needed.
Our ambition is to create a UK-wide ecosystem for One Health AMR diagnostics, supporting promising technologies throughout their journey from scientific discovery to practical, real-world use.
Connecting Complementary Expertise
ARREST-AMR brings together researchers, diagnostic developers, clinicians, veterinarians, plant and crop-health professionals, environmental scientists, engineers, microbiologists, AI and data scientists, industry, regulators, policymakers and end users.
Working across the One Health spectrum, the Network has five interconnected objectives:
Cross-pollinate technologies, knowledge and best practice across One Health sectors, allowing advances in one area to inform solutions in another.
Identify diagnostic needs and priorities across human, animal, plant and environmental health.
Innovate by bringing disciplines together to develop new diagnostic approaches and improve existing technologies.
Evaluate diagnostic performance, utility and economic value using robust and standardised approaches.
From the laboratory to real-world impact
The UK has considerable expertise in AMR and diagnostic technologies. ARREST-AMR aims to connect this expertise and help translate scientific excellence into practical solutions.
By creating connections across human, animal, plant and environmental health, we aim to accelerate the development, evaluation and adoption of diagnostics that provide the right information, in the right place, at the right time.
Our ultimate goal is to enable better detection of AMR and more informed use of antimicrobials across the One Health spectrum—helping protect human health, animal health, food and plant health, and the environment for the future.
